Bargle

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 23, 2026

Overview

Bargle ("the App") is a free bar exam study application. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is stored, and your rights.

The short version: your study data stays on your device. The only data that ever leaves your device is for the optional School Spirit leaderboard and the optional post-exam surveys, both of which are off until you turn them on, use Apple's iCloud (no third parties), and never include your name or email.

Data Stored On Your Device

All of your core study data (study progress, accuracy, streaks, dragon status, wardrobe items, your selected exam, and preferences) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is never transmitted off your device and is not backed up to any cloud service by the App.

School Spirit Leaderboard (Optional, Opt-In)

Bargle includes an optional public leaderboard that ranks law schools by their students' combined progress. It is off by default. It turns on only if you choose a law school in a clearly labeled leaderboard screen, or enable the leaderboard toggle in Settings.

If you opt in, the following is stored in Apple's iCloud (the public CloudKit database for the App) and is associated with a pseudonymous identifier that Apple's CloudKit assigns:

The public leaderboard displays schools only, as combined totals. It never displays individual users, names, or any personal information. Participating requires being signed in to iCloud on your device. You can leave the leaderboard at any time by turning off the toggle in Settings, which deletes your leaderboard record from iCloud.

Post-Exam Surveys (Optional)

Around your marked exam date, the App may show optional surveys asking how your exam went, whether Bargle helped you prepare, and (about 90 days later) whether you passed. Every survey is skippable. If you choose to answer, your coded answers are stored in Apple's iCloud under the same pseudonymous CloudKit identifier described above, with no name or personal information. These responses help us understand whether the App is helping students.

Sign in with Apple

Bargle offers optional Sign in with Apple authentication. If you choose to sign in:

You may also use the App as a guest.

What Bargle Does Not Collect

Even with the leaderboard and surveys enabled, Bargle does not collect:

Third-Party Services and Tracking

Bargle does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and does not share your data with any third parties. The optional leaderboard and surveys use Apple's iCloud (CloudKit), a first-party Apple service, and the data is not used to track you. Apple may provide us aggregate, anonymized usage statistics (such as active-device counts) through App Store Connect; this is managed by Apple, contains no personal information, and you can control it in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.

Notifications

The App may request permission to send local notifications (study reminders, streak alerts, and exam-day and post-exam follow-ups). These notifications are scheduled entirely on your device. No notification content is sent to external servers.

Data Deletion

You are in control of your data:

If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also revoke Bargle's access in iOS Settings under Apple ID, then Sign-In & Security, then Sign in with Apple.

Children's Privacy

Bargle is an educational app designed for law students and legal professionals. It is not directed at children under 13, and the App does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
